About the Artist
Born in Australia, Margaret undertook art studies in Melbourne in the mid-seventies and remains a committed artist who has always preferred to draw and paint from life. She has exhibited extensively in Australia and overseas, winning over 30 awards including the Alice Bale Award for Watercolour in 1995.
Her subject matter covers landscape, the figure, and mostly, still life, which she finds offers unending arrangements to stimulate the imagination. She appreciates the work of many artists from the beautifully crafted paintings of William Delafield Cook, the masterly confidence of John Singer Sargent, and the arrangements of Walter Murch to the imagination of the surrealists. She is also attracted to minimalism and colour massing whether it be abstraction or realism.
"I find a when a painting is in progress, if I can catch the flow, it takes on a life of its own and can even whisper its title to me. It is a wonderful form of meditation."Shop the collection
