About the Artist
Kate Hodgetts
Kate Hodgetts is a Melbourne based visual artist working with experimental photographic processes and painting. Hodgetts’ formal training is in photography and since graduating in 2007 her practice has focused on non-lens based methods: handmade negatives, photograms and darkroom alchemy. Over the last couple of years Hodgetts has shifted her focus to painting, taking her interest in experimentation, movement and transmitted light with her to create rhythmic compositions of light and dark.
Hodgetts graduated with first class honours from The Victorian College of the Arts in 2007 and was the recipient of several Graduation Show awards including the Su Baker Award and the Theodore Urbach Encouragement Award. In 2013 Hodgetts completed a Masters in Cultural Material Conservation where her interest lied in photographic negative conservation including the removal and reapplication of emulsions, something which has continued strongly in her arts practice.
Since graduating Hodgetts has exhibited work in solo and group shows nationally and her works are held in both public and private collections.
