This piece is a part of Tracing Change, a group exhibition showcasing the work of artists from the Modern Times community and beyond. Tracing Change invites both artists and audience to trace back through thoughts and experiences, and experience a gratitude or curiosity for the ability to grow, transmute and transform.

“Using the momentum of this exhibition as an agent of change itself, this piece is a new direction of exploring clay in a more painterly way through the use of a technique called nerikomi, which involves creating patterns with coloured clay, while still maintaining a subversion of classical architectural tropes as a form of escapism and fantasy," says Summers.

About the Artist

Tom Summers

Tom Summers is a queer ceramic artist and product designer currently practicing out of JamFactory in Adelaide, South Australia. His distinctive ceramic vessels are one of a kind, each being handbuilt using slabs of clay that have been coloured by pigments that are infused into the clay prior to working with it. 

His work contemplates the everyday built environment and warps his experience of place to reflect the vibrant inner world that exists in each of us. The work is also as much a colour exploration as it is an exploration of form, trying to create a harmonious balance of colour, proportion and scale to create a private, secret inner feeling.

What is your return policy?

Please choose carefully as we do not offer refunds, exchanges or credit notes for change of mind on any one-off items which includes vintage furniture, original art and objects and made-to-order products. For any item that we hold repeatable stock of, we offer a limited return policy. This policy covers in-stock prints purchased in store, and some homewares and objects (return policy details can be found on individual product pages).

Do you offer click and collect?

Yes! Please select the option when checking out for pick up from our store on 311 Smith Street, Wurundjeri, Fitzroy. For larger items that require a vehicle, this entrance is the only access to our store. Unfortunately, we cannot offer assistance to your vehicle so please collect your items with this in mind.
