About the Object:

Thoronet Dish in Polished Aluminium by Henry Wilson

Thoronet dish, shares its name and arched lines with the Abby in the south of France. It is made, polished and finished in Sydney, Australia in solid Aluminium.

Sand casting is as much about negative space as it is about form, This piece can be stood up as a display object.

Each casting is manufactured in small batches meaning slight variations will occur from piece to piece. Production marks may include slight pour ripples or surface pitting.

It will arrive with a bright finish but will oxidise and darken over time to reveal a distinctive patina. Simply use a metal polish to restore a like-new finish.

About the Designer:

Henry Wilson is a Sydney based designer whose work combines a rational, democratic utility with an element of sculptural expression. There is a clear form and function in his work, but it's important they also have feeling.

About the Designer

Henry Wilson

Henry Wilson was born in Sydney in 1983, and graduated honors in Visual Arts (woodwork) at Australian National University, Canberra (2002-2005 BVA (Hons.)) and received the HSP Huygens scholarship at The Design Academy Eindhoven for Postgraduate studies (2008-2010) MA (Des.)

In 2010 he set up a studio for Design in Sydney, notable for the readapting of several disused shipping containers on a vacant industrial site. Though multidisciplinary; the studio is currently focussing on locally produced furniture and lighting. Many items are available as self-build components or fully resolved ‘in-house’ pieces. The collection continues to grow organically; committed to honestly resolved concepts with a focus on longevity.

Whether it be revisiting existing objects or producing new work, Henry is dedicated to experimenting on the process of design and production. He lectures part time at University NSW (COFA).
