This original artwork is a part of Tracing Change, a group exhibition showcasing the work of artists from the Modern Times community and beyond. Tracing Change invites both artists and audience to trace back through thoughts and experiences, and experience a gratitude or curiosity for the ability to grow, transmute and transform.

The introduction of flat form and painted shapes challenges Vogelpoel's usual obsession with building sculpture work and the expression of the clay in its raw form sans decoration. This is an uncomfortable and challenging piece that manifests the chaos and beauty of exploring new ground.

“The juxtaposition and overlapping of shapes explores the idea of boundaries. Boundaries are there to protect us and ground us. Stepping outside of these boundaries challenges and provokes us. Our imaginations are given free rein, for better or worse," says Vogelpoel.

About the Artist

Jan Vogelpoel

Combining a mid-century design aesthetic with a contemporary minimalist approach, Jan Vogelpoel’s intuitive and fervent process produces ceramic sculptures that hold an ethereal presence in any space, effortlessly reflecting connection, fluidity and strength. Each piece carries the energy of nature and the maker, and the characteristic raw finish of her work makes them highly tactile, recalling the textures of sandstone cliffs or ancient artefacts.

Vogelpoel has been shortlisted for the Victorian Craft Awards (2019) established by Craft Victoria, and The Design Files + Laminex Awards (2021), with her work now widely collected in Australia and internationally.'

Please choose carefully as we do not offer refunds, exchanges or credit notes for change of mind on any one-off items which includes vintage furniture, original art and objects and made-to-order products. Do you offer click and collect?

Yes! Please select the option when checking out for pick up from our store on 311 Smith Street, Wurundjeri, Fitzroy. For larger items that require a vehicle, this entrance is the only access to our store. Unfortunately, we cannot offer assistance to your vehicle so please collect your items with this in mind.
