Astrid Salomon, who practices under the ceramic studio Bastard Ceramics, is always exploring a new angle and approach through a limited body of work. The ideas for her work often draw inspiration from the emotional experience and the various stages of the human condition. It is a slow forming process, everything is hand-built, either by coiling or slab building and always encouraging the unique voice of a piece. Salomon approaches each piece in a conversation with the material, searching for the contradictions of nature, the raw and the refined, the line and the curve, the taking up space, the quiet appearing of a manifestation.
