Radboud van Beekum graduated in architectural design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 1977, focusing his studies on furniture.

During this period he designed the iconic cube chair, which was presented for the first time in 1980 at the Triennale in Poznan, Poland and then produced by Pastoe in 1981.

van Beekum went on to lecture for several years at the Design Academy in Eindhoven and his Cube chair is still highly sought after today. Inspired by the Dutch artistic movement, De Stijl, (think Mondrian and Gerrit Rietveld’s Red and Blue Chair), it is a beautiful expression of modern Dutch design aesthetics.
