Yan Guo is a self-taught Melbourne-based artist currently working from her home studio in Thornbury. Having had a background in urban planning and currently working in the field of interior design, Guo has always had a strong interest in the interaction between people and buildings, and is particularly compelled by the notion that we inhabit spaces of our own creation; that our lives are full of personal 'constructs' - whether physical, societal or emotional.

Her works seek to depict these ideas of personal constructions and conceptualise them in the form of playful, suggestive worlds that encourage viewers to consider their own personal constructs and experiences. Working primarily with acrylic paints and airbrushing techniques, Guo’s approach to her art practice is conceptually driven and reflects her formal design training.
