Emily Besser is an artist living and working in Sydney, Australia.
A graduate of Sydney College of the Arts majoring in Painting and coming from the field of Native Title law and environmental planning, Emily returned to work as a practising artist and educator after having children.
Working with processes of repetition and pattern, Besser uses paint, collage, drawing and stop-animation to create her cycles of work.
Besser’s different approaches to making work at different times allows her to deal in novel ways with processes of growth and collapse, focus and obscurity and order and disorganisation.
Emily is primarily interested in how movement and feeling can be represented in shape and colour. She is concerned with how abstract work has the potential to support and reflect feeling-states, as well as the way in which bodies and objects can move in space and convey meaning.
