“Grotto forms have always attracted me. The private spaces they create and what is held within them are intriguing. Empty grottos provide a space to be filled with personal desires, reflections, and wishes. The lady of the grotto is a connection for me to my ancestors and a place I hold internally that connects me to a land I have never known but am intrinsically linked to. Interpreted through the stories and myths taught to me in my childhood,” says Russell

About the Artist:

Ebony Russell is an Australian artist currently based in Sydney. Her work focuses on notions of nostalgia and desire imbued in collected objects. Using an experimental construction method to produce sculptures made solely of piping – a technique usually reserved for the cake decorating craft of royal icing – she has developed a process that allows her to create forms that seem to defy their own making.
