Yen Qin

Georgina Yen Qin Lee is an emerging ceramicist based in Naarm (Melbourne). She uses the medium of ceramics as a point of departure for exploring the culture and traditions of her heritage as an Australian-born Chinese Malaysian.

Combining hand-manipulated organic shapes with centuries-old Chinese ceramic forms and complex surface treatments, her works are a result of a slow, considered and heartfelt dialogue between artist and materials that heighten our sense of imagination.

All works are made by Lee and fired in her studio in Abbotsford, Victoria. She has degrees in Mechanical Engineering (Monash University), Art History (University of Melbourne) and Visual Art (Victorian College of the Arts). Prior to working with ceramics she worked in painting and mixed media and had exhibitions at artist run spaces in Melbourne and abroad. She developed her ceramic practice at the School of Clay and Art (SoCA) under Neville French and has since shown her ceramic works in Melbourne and Paris.
