Chris Clements

“All my paintings on board are made on road trips, driving. I’m interested in how types of landscapes relate to types of building - however humble or grand. These are places I’d never seen before making the paintings so I’m working with that unfamiliarity to achieve a feeling of the first glimpse of a place.”

Chris Clements was born in Christchurch, New Zealand. In 1994 he moved to Wellington where he began exhibiting and by 2000 had diversified his practice from painting into assemblage, sculpture and installation. He has exhibited throughout New Zealand, has lived in Indonesia and now resides in Melbourne, Australia, where he continues a studio based practice.
