Brigita La (Lastauskaite) is a Lithuanian Australian based in Melbourne since 1998. She completed a MFA majoring in Textile at the Vilinius Art Academy in Kaunas, Lithuania, then went on to study a Bachelor of Media Arts at RMIT after migrating to Australia in the late 1990s.
Brigita’s multi-layered works - full of woven scribbles, splashes and the spontaneous application of paint - are akin to folkloric tapestries. Her selection of colours and materials – most often synthetic polymer paints, oil sticks, crayon and pencils – juxtapose or interlace leading to sumptuous works that immediately engage the eye.
Since her first exhibition in1996, Brigita has had 5 Solo Exhibitions in Melbourne, two in Europe, and has participated in over 20 group exhibitions, and she was selected as a finalist at HUTCHINS Art Prize (Tasmania) in both 2013 and 2015 for works on paper.
