Bettina Willner

Bettina Willner is a Melbourne based ceramics artist. In 1991 she graduated from a Bachelor of Art at Monash University and has since exhibited in commercial and public galleries across Australia.

Willner’s practice involves an intimate connection between material, form and everyday life. Slabs, extrusions, elemental structures and gestural painting techniques characterise her sculptural ceramic pieces. Formally, the works often culminate in curled, pearlescent extrusions of clay piled into organic and harmonious architectures. Their linear quality suggests an abstract drawing or intuitive scrawl; a direct and unconscious link between material and thinking. In this way, these sculptural works engage with a philosophical connection between making and the continuum of everyday life; their lines representative of any number of progressions ranging from fleeting emotions to the whirring human psyche, life cycles or infinite continuums found in the natural world.
