Anna Fiedler’s practice utilises the process of weaving to remove the boundaries surrounding traditional craft making. Her woven objects attempt to re-deduce their fixity between both craft and new materialism.
Fiedler is predominantly known for painting the warp threads with diluted paint, connecting to the rich history of dyeing fabric and creating personal iconography. Interlacing materials and themes from the past and present, Fiedler fosters a connection to her environment, weaving the old and the new with natural fibres and recycled materials.
Her imagery evokes a sense of warped time, resembling something of the past with ancient motifs while also being inspired by the present. Her woven paintings are experimental and unbounded; finding a criticality within the process, softening differences between process and outcome.
