About the work:

Study at Eldorado II, Original Artwork by Andy Pye.

This piece is part of Radiant Dreams, a group exhibition showcasing the work of more than 50 artists from the Modern Times community. Radiant Dreams invited our artists to unleash their most vibrant work, embracing colour, movement and verve. The resulting works are a buoyant collection reflecting optimism, energy and hope as we emerge from the monotonous routine of lockdown.

“I’ve chosen to send these light drawings that form studies for paintings. Most of this year was spent wandering the rocky hills near me, sleeping in caves and camping whilst studying the natural environment with an old SLR, a pad and coloured pencils. Each drawing doesn’t necessarily represent painting these drawings fused together to make one painting which I have not created yet,” Pye says.

About the Artist:

Andy Pye works out of his bush studio near Eldorado in northern Victoria, where he paints en plein air, capturing the native bushland. Pye takes inspiration from Russian painter and sculptor Danila Vassilieff (1897-1958) who emigrated to Australia in the early 1920s and whose work Pye credits with informing his practice, as well as the way he approached life as an artist. Pye has exhibited widely in a number of Victorian galleries including Boom Gallery, Geelong, Wangaratta Art Gallery and RMIT Gallery, Melbourne.
