About the work:
Blue IV, Original Artwork by Kubota Fumikazu.
This original artwork is part of Kubota Fumikazu’s 2022 Artist in Focus series As High As Blue Skies, As Deep As Blue Oceans, a collection of paintings which marks a fresh start to the artist’s practice, as he emerged from the Melbourne lockdowns of 2020 and 2021.
“We are not yet out of the pandemic. However, things are slowly coming back to our lives in different forms. Everything seems the same as before, but something is different. But nothing has changed. I have started seeing my surroundings differently. This new body of work is the projection of how I see my world today… I am imagining diving into the ocean, or staring at the sky. It’s cleansing and I feel anew. It’s simple but complicated. It’s dark but light. Everything is the same but something is different,” says Fumikazu .
About the Artist:
Kubota Fumikazu’s series of compositions are a celebration of materiality of linen, colour and simple forms. Much of his work is informed by a selection of 1970s era wooden children’s building blocks, heavily focusing on the circle and sphere which represent the sun and the dawning of a new day.
