Mid-century to Memphis

Our vintage Italian furniture showcases a range of styles from the 50's through to the 80's. Italian designers were always ahead of the game and many pieces from the earlier decades have a look we would tend to associate with later decades here in Australia. Gianfranco Frattini's nesting tables designed in the 1960's would have been at home in any contemporary Australian home in the 80's with their white painted wood and smoke glass. On the other hand, Italian designers such as the Memphis group founded by Ettore Sottsass are unmistakably of their period, it screams 1980's!

Chrome-and-Glass-2

Shine On

Put a little shine on your interior with materials like glass and chrome, which were favoured by Italian furniture and lighting designers in the 60's. Combine with timber pieces to bring in a some warmth such as these sculptural ribbonesque swivel dining chairs.

Black Accents

You may have heard that black is the new white...Introduce this darkest of shades with black accents combined with natural materials such as timber and terracotta. We have some new vintage furniture pieces that are just the ticket - including this stunning pair of solid oak Spanish Chairs by Borge Mogensen and this sculptural Italian wall unit with writing desk. Pick up this new trend using decorative objects too, with pieces such as Sharon Muir's ceramic planters and vases.

Blue Velvet

We have a number of very unique and rare vintage pieces from Italy that we are shining the spotlight on this month. These more expressive statement pieces speak for themselves, so leave them to do the talking. Create interest by placing luxurious velvets next to warm brass and timber to create a juxtaposition of textures. Combine flamboyant Italian design with restrained Dutch or organic Danish pieces for a chic European style.
