Christopher Jewitt, 'Paper Planes', oil and acrylic on linen, 800 x 600mm, 2021.

For this exhibition, we invited our artist community, as well as some new faces, to unleash their most vibrant work and embrace colour, movement and verve. Responses have been broad and reflect each artist’s practice as well as their personal approach to the challenges of isolation and restriction.

Radiant Dreams is an opportunity of collective buoyancy and hope for the artists involved, but also for those who will experience the exhibition, strengthening the sense of community we have all worked hard to maintain in our own ways throughout 2021.”
— Modern Times Gallery Curator Kathleen Ashby
Shelley Horan, 'Composition 6', Edition of 20, Digital inkjet print on Canson Rag Photographique, 700 x 560mm, 2021.

For some artists, bold colour comes naturally to their practice and they have fully embraced the full spectrum in their work. Christopher Jewitt’s Paper Planes captures his iconic mark-making on a smaller, intimate scale, while Shelley Horan’s bold contemporary still-life photography Composition 6 and Composition 10 feature common objects, many of which we have become all too familiar within our own homes. Yet, Horan captures a fresh and new perspective that elevates everyday objects to things of beauty.

Irene Grishin-Selzer, Moon Cycle (Golden Light) #4, Quartz Ceramic and 24ct gold lustre, 120 x 70 x 50mm, 2021.
Vida is hand carved from Italian scaglione alabasater and is pinned on a hardwood and brass base with a brass turning pin.

In contrast, some artists chose to explore a more reserved sense of solace and reflection. Carol Crawford’s sculptural piece Vida was created with a feeling that is comforting and nurturing. Crawford writes that Vida, “does not shout out loudly at you, she needs to be contemplated individually and will provide much succour to the observer with her curvilinear, intertwined for and her playful interaction with light and shadow”.

We hope you’ll join us 18 November from 6-8pm to celebrate the launch of a truly vibrant show! We look forward to welcoming you back into our showroom with an evening celebrating the importance of art in difficult times.

This exhibition features more than 50 artists who have unleashed their most vibrant work, embracing colour, movement and verve. We look forward to welcoming you to the gallery filled with works reflecting optimism, energy and hope.
