For this exhibition, we invited our artist community, as well as some new faces, to unleash their most vibrant work and embrace colour, movement and verve. Responses have been broad and reflect each artist’s practice as well as their personal approach to the challenges of isolation and restriction.
For some artists, bold colour comes naturally to their practice and they have fully embraced the full spectrum in their work. Christopher Jewitt’s Paper Planes captures his iconic mark-making on a smaller, intimate scale, while Shelley Horan’s bold contemporary still-life photography Composition 6 and Composition 10 feature common objects, many of which we have become all too familiar within our own homes. Yet, Horan captures a fresh and new perspective that elevates everyday objects to things of beauty.
In contrast, some artists chose to explore a more reserved sense of solace and reflection. Carol Crawford’s sculptural piece Vida was created with a feeling that is comforting and nurturing. Crawford writes that Vida, “does not shout out loudly at you, she needs to be contemplated individually and will provide much succour to the observer with her curvilinear, intertwined for and her playful interaction with light and shadow”.
We hope you’ll join us 18 November from 6-8pm to celebrate the launch of a truly vibrant show! We look forward to welcoming you back into our showroom with an evening celebrating the importance of art in difficult times.
